About
Troy Smith

Troy graduated from James Cook University in Queensland with a Bachelor of Laws degree after finishing high school. He continued his education with the University of Sydney in North Sydney, where he studied at the College of Law. Troy was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2001 and was listed as a practitioner in the High Court of Australia register in 2018.

Troy started his legal career in commercial litigation with Heidtman & Co Lawyers in Sydney. After that, he pursued property development in Sydney, where he enjoyed success. He then shifted to motels and established a coach tour operation that he eventually sold after 15 years.

In 2016, Troy realized his true calling in criminal law and advocacy, where his profound sense of fairness and justice was a perfect fit. He has gained ample experience in complex criminal and quasi-criminal law and has successfully represented clients in numerous trials and appeals, including winning cases in the Queensland Court of Appeal. Troy is known as a strong, unrelenting advocate who obtains excellent results for his clients.

Originally from Lismore in northern New South Wales, Troy now lives on the Gold Coast with his wife and three sons. His wife is a successful businesswoman who was previously awarded Telstra Businesswoman of the Year and now works as a Chief Operating Officer for a large corporation. Troy enjoys sports, especially motorsports, where his family has a rich background, which he has passed on to his sons, who now competitively race go-karts.
